The Italian digital market continues to show robust growth, outpacing the performance of the economy as a whole and expected to exceed €90 billion by 2026 . The report calls it “Digital in Italy” presented on January 25 by Anitec-Assinform, the Confindustria association which brings together the main ICT companies, produced in collaboration with NetConsulting cube.
In 2023, the digital sector demonstrated its robustness, recording a significantly stronger increase (+2.8%) compared to Italian GDP, which is showing signs of slowing down.
ICT services will be the driving force of the digital market in Italy in 2023
ICT services (+9%), digital content and advertising (+5.9) and ICT software and solutions (+5.8%) dominated the entire sector. Marc Gay , president of Anitec-Assinform, underlines: “Despite economic and geopolitical uncertainty, the increase in the cost of money, the volatility of raw material prices and other factors weighing on growth prospects, the digital market remains a fundamental pillar to guide and support the country on the path to innovation and economic development.”
Gay highlighted how, in 2023, innovative technologies such as generative artificial intelligence and ChatGPT have attracted the attention of academia, institutions, businesses and citizens. These technologies, associated with big data, the cloud and quantum computing, will transform our habits and the different production sectors of our country.
In the first half of 2023, the digital market recorded a value of 38.106 million euros, with a growth of +2.5% compared to the same period in 2022. The sectors with the highest growth percentage are services ICT (+8.8%), driven mainly by the Cloud market (+19.8%), digital content and advertising (+6%) and ICT software and solutions (+5.7%). Forecasts indicate an even more significant increase in the years to come: +3.8% in 2024, +4.8% in 2025 and +5% in 2026. Over the period 2024-2026, all sectors are expected to grow.
The role of digital facilitators
THE Digital Facilitator will continue to play a fundamental role in the development of the Italian digital market. Gay continues: “Digital market dynamics are increasingly linked to factors that influence the interaction between digital transformation, the economy and human capital. We want to imagine a future in which we change the way we do things and increasingly need new and sophisticated skills. »
The report on “Digital in Italy” also contains chapters on cyber security and digital in public administration. Cyberattacks increased in 2023; spending on cybersecurity has increased (+13% in 2023), confirming its crucial role in supporting the digital evolution of businesses. Gay concludes: “2024 will be a key year for our country. This will be the year where we must demonstrate that we have understood the lesson that innovation offers us: innovation does not stop, but we can decide to what extent to exploit it. Today we have a duty to be courageous and determined to assert our leadership in the field of digital innovation.
